wages of sin 1

Sin is Death

Jesus came so that we may have life [John 10:10]. This tells me that we were dead before we accepted God’s way back into the Kingdom. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life” [John 14:6]. God said “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ [Leviticus 17:11]
Ok, so Jesus came to save us from death and sin equals death. A sin is disobedience to God. In the garden, God and man had a relationship. They walked and talked with each other [Genesis 3:8]. At this point, man was ‘one’ with his creator. I always image man and God sharing ideas and stories as well as laughing with one another. Somewhere along in man’s ‘happily ever after’ Satan began to think more of himself and started a war in heaven. This brought banishment from heaven and prison in Hades for his followers. But Satan, being a crafty soul, decided to take God’s greatest creation – man – down with him. See, he knew God gave man ‘free will’, and he knew about the two trees in the garden, so through deceit Satan whispered half truths (which is the same as a flat out lie) and deceived Eve. Eve in turn gave the fruit to Adam and both ate of it. This was the one thing God warned Adam not to do!

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” [Genesis 2:15-17] And in that very instant that man ate of the forbidden fruit his soul died and his oneness with God was severed. Man became aware of – SELF. Before this man was not concerned with himself, (he didn’t even know he was walking around naked) what he would wear or eat (bling, bling, new car, new house, how important he looked, etc.). He was only aware of doing the Father’s will.

This is what Jesus came to restore – oneness with God! We still have free will so we must choose to accept God’s gift of restoration through His son Jesus. We must choose – every day – to die to ‘self’ and follow Jesus and the example He gave us. No one said it would be easy, but you are not alone – God/the Holy Spirit, is right there with you cheering you on. And when you make a mistake, God is not angry with you. On the contrary, He loves you and wants to help you. Ask for forgiveness and that He show you the way – and He will!

Life is more than what we have made it out to be! You were created for more than what you have become! Just image – what if everyone in the whole world would stop living just for themselves and what they can acquire, and became aware and concerned for one another – what a beautiful place this would be! We would have unity (there’s power in unity) and peace. No more wars, no more theft, no more lying or back stabbing, no more jealousy or envy. It would be people loving people and doing the Father’s will! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!

Kingdom of Heaven

Jesus is the way!

Jesus does not make a way… HE IS THE WAY!

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” [John 14:6]

So how do we know what the ‘way’ is? For this we must go back to the beginning. Many people don’t like starting at the beginning. They want to jump in at what they perceive as the ‘good stuff’, but without knowing how everything got started you miss out on what the gospel/good news is.

In the beginning God created… Stop and think about that for a minute. Everything you see, the different species, plants, trees, birds, fish; and everything you don’t see such as air, the universe – He created. I don’t know about you but when I think of the wonders of His hand… it blows my mind! But what is really mind blowing is that when it came to man He created us in His image [Genesis 1:27]. In 1 John 4:8 tells us “Whoever does not love does
not know God, because God is love.”
This tells me we were originally created to love and walk in that love. With this image, we can fulfill the two greatest commandments “Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” [Matthew 22:37-39]

See, I’m just starting to grab a hold of this thing and my Spirit tells me I’m on the right track (I pray yours agree). Jesus didn’t die because I’m a sinner, He died because through the fall of man (Adam) we are all born into sin [Romans 3:23]. We lost His image! God said that if Adam ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil he would surely die [Genesis 2:17]. So why didn’t he die? Theologians, ministers, and philosophers have tried to answer this question, and have explained it in ways that seem right to a man (man was created for eternity and at that point our bodies begun to decay). But the bible tells us that what seems right to a man leads to death [Proverbs 14:12] and that in all things get understanding [Proverbs 4:5&7]. Man, did die as soon as Adam ate of the fruit! His body didn’t fall to the ground and die as we have come to understand death, but our image, the image of God died within us. This is what Jesus destroyed on the cross, death!

Jesus said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness” [John 10:10]. On that day, on Calvary, God nailed sin to the cross “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” [2 Corinthians 5:21]. He did this so that all who accept His gracious and merciful gift through His son Jesus, we may be restored to our original value. It is as though we had never sinned! We can now boldly, not with arrogance, but with confidence, come before the throne of God. We didn’t say a prayer to go to heaven! We surrendered our life (gave up self [self-centerness and selfishness]) so that He may live in us and be glorified through us.

We say (out loud) we need you Father! We’ve made a mess of our lives and know that we cannot live without you! Please forgive me. I know now Jesus that you died so that I may live and be restored to the Father. I surrender my life to you and ask that you come into my heart and change me. Thank you Father!

If you’ve said this prayer, and sincerely meant it, know that the Holy Spirit now resides in you and you have been born again. Find someone that will baptize you with water (symbol of being born again. As a child is born, a mother’s water had to brake before giving birth.) this is called the baptism of repentance or the baptism of John. Later, you will be baptized with fire (Holy Ghost/Spirit) that will enable you to do many signs, wonders, and miracles, but don’t concern yourself with that right now.

    Pursue love (1 Corinthians 14:10)

for without love you can have all the gifts of the Spirit and still have gained nothing (1 Corinthians 13:2). Get into your bible and ask that the Holy Spirit who lives in you to revel ‘truth’ to you. Don’t be deceived (again) by thinking this is all about ‘works’. Jesus said on the cross “It is finished”. He defeated death (sin) and through Him and His grace, He will finish the good works in which He started (Philippians 1:6) in you.

Remember: You are created for more than what you’ve become. Your value is so high (He loves you so, so much) that God gave up His one and only begotten son so that you may be restored to Him (just like it was before the fall of man). It is His wish not to lose a single one of us (John 6:39) so fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12) and BELIEVE!
